Steve Clark is the founder of Home Team Captions, a Washington, DC-based realtime captioning company. Steve began his career as a freelance court reporter in 1985. In 1997, Steve left court reporting to pursue a career in broadcast captioning. In 2006, after nine years in the broadcast captioning field, Steve started Home Team Captions (HTC). HTC provides onsite and remote captioning for individuals and large groups, in one-on-one settings as well as conferences; classrooms and online webinars and seminars; civic settings, including live theater performances; and stadium captioning of sporting events. In 2016, HTC was acquired by Alternative Communication Services (ACS) an Ai-Media Company. Steve is a consultant, providing realtime captioning services and tech support for captioners and clients.
Steve also provides one-on-one remote training for realtime writers who are transitioning from court reporting to captioning and for working broadcast captioners interested in captioning broadcast sports. In 2019, Steve helped found the Global Alliance of Speech-to-Text Captioning, whose vision is “Universal accessibility to the spoken word via all forms of captioning” and whose mission is “To be the leading authority on speech-to-text captioning, representing all captioners, consumers and industry.” He currently serves as Chair of the Global Alliance Board of Directors. Steve is a member the Maryland Court Reporters Association and the Virginia Court Reporters Association and is past president of the New Hampshire Court Reporters Association. Steve has presented at local, state and national captioning and court reporting seminars since 1997.
